About the event
Now a resident of Melbourne, Malian griot Aboubacar Djéliké Kouyate graces our city with his unique musical interpretations of the Mandeng heritage and culture into which he was born.
Drawing on the deep experience of his village life, cultural training and extensive travels throughout West Africa as a griot singer and multi-instrumental musician, as well as his many diverse and contemporary music projects and collaborations over 15 years in France, Aboubacar Djéliké has now made his way to this city.
He continues to transform and share the music of his traditional Mandeng culture here in Melbourne. His musical compositions and songs are melodic, rhythmic and entrancing, gently inviting your heart, soul and feet to share in the Kouyate dance of life that has its origins in the 13th century era of the king Sundiata.
