Rubita

Rubita blends soulful melodies with the smooth tones of the electric guitar and a vibrant rhythm section heavily  influenced by Latin American music.

Rubita is the project of electric guitarist and vocalist Rachel Kibblewhite, formed after she graduated as the first woman with a degree in the electric guitar from the University of Otago (New Zealand). Her song writing takes inspirations from jazz classics such as Ella Fitzgerald but with a modern, Sharon Van Etten flavour. The band have played at major New Zealand festivals such as Splore, CubaDupa and Newtown Festival, and her single ‘Geraldine’ was voted as a favourite song for 2022 by Flying Nun Records.
